On the 28th of February, 2019, the International Festival of Native Languages dedicated to the International Year of the Languages of the Indigenous Peoples of the World under the auspices of UNESCO was held in the school No.18 of Salavat.
The aim of the Festival was to encourage students to learn native languages and the languages of the world for successful intercultural and interlingual communication of the peoples of the world in the interests of sustainable development, strengthening of mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation of the peoples of the world.
The event was organized by the Committee of the Republic of Bashkortostan for UNESCO and the Department of Education of Salavat together with UNESCO Associated School Secondary School No. 18.
Pupils and teachers of UNESCO Associated Schools and UNESCO Friends Clubs were invited to participate in the event.
The participants discussed the problems of preserving the languages of small indigenous peoples of Russia such as Izhora, Erzya as well as the Bashkir and Tatar languages. The guests were teachers and pupils Secondary School No. 18 of Salavat, dressed in ethnic costumes of the peoples living in the Republic of Bashkortostan.
Within the framework of the Festival, more than 30 applications were received for participation in the correspondence stage from the Republics of Tatarstan, North Ossetia-Alania, Khakassia, Chuvash and Ulyanovsk regions, from cities such as St. Petersburg, Ufa, Kursk, Voronezh, and Saratov.
In conclusion, the participants were awarded certificates.
The guests thanked the participants of the festival for their original musical performances reflecting the culture and traditions of the different peoples of Russia.
